Facing Dental Anxiety With Sedation Technology

Posted .

Are you afraid of going to the periodontist? If so, you are not the only one experiencing anxiety when seeing your dental specialist. It is common for patients to feel nervous about visiting the periodontist. Here at Bluegrass Periodontics in Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Elliot Neuman and Dr. Douglas Neuman strive to make our patients feel relaxed, knowing you are safe while receiving the best possible care in a comfortable environment.

This is why we are pleased to offer our patients sedation dentistry using sedative medication to help you feel relaxed and calm during your visit. To accomplish this, we offer several types of sedation dentistry based on your unique needs. Let’s take a look!

1- Nitrous oxide: also known as “laughing gas” is a sedative gas mixed with oxygen. You simply breathe it in to feel calm and relaxed during your treatment.

2- Oral sedation: you simply take an oral medication before your treatment to feel calm and at ease during your time with us.

3- IV sedation: this sedation is given intravenously–through your veins–which allows us to administer sedation quickly while controlling the medication level to ensure your comfort.

In addition to sedation dentistry, remember to count your breaths and take it slow. Try working out a system of a signal for your periodontist to stop if you are feeling too stressed or uncomfortable. These techniques are designed to help you relax during your treatment.
