Before your operation, there are some instructions you may find helpful when preparing for your treatment in Lexington, Kentucky. These include:
• Sedation – Please have a designated driver to accompany you to the dentist and home, unless you only received nitrous oxide (laughing gas) remove any dark fingernail polish, take the pills prescribed, and do not eat or drink anything, except water, for 6 hours prior to your appointment
• Anti-Nausea -This prescribed medication is often called into your pharmacy prior to your procedure, and should be taken1-2 hours before your appointment for the prevention of nausea.
• Steroids are usually called in several days prior to your appointment, however, you will not take them until the morning of your procedure
• Smoking – To be aware, if you smoke during the first 2 weeks of healing from a periodontal gum-grafting procedure, the graft will most likely not survive.
• Eating – Eat soft foods, such as yogurt, oatmeal, cottage cheese, pudding, apple sauce, rice, and eggs.
